Preserving Historic Textiles, Costume & Fiber Art

Kathryn Tarleton and Charlotte Hamlin co-founded ConText in 2001 to serve the textile conservation needs of both private and institutional clients. Based on the principles of conservation ethics and their extensive knowledge of global textile history and construction, their practice ranges from the stabilization of delicate 17th century embroidered pieces to the design and fabrication of permanent display devices for large pile rugs from the 1970s.

ConText Inc believes conservation services should be provided in relation to the context of the textile - historical, technical, structural - and of its owner - their past experience with and future plans for the textile.

ConText Inc offers comprehensive conservation services for historic textiles, costume, and contemporary fiber art, from full collection surveys to the conservation treatment of family heirlooms. ConText Inc works with clients to design custom solutions for their preservation needs.
